Soldiers of the Nigerian Army on Thursday celebrated the appointment of Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff, COAS.
President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed Yahaya as the new COAS following the death of Ibrahim Attahiru in a plane crash in Kaduna last week Friday.
Yahaya’s appointment was made public on Thursday in a statement by the Defence Headquarters.
The new COAS was the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 1 Division of the Nigerian Army, and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counter-Terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East, codenamed Operation HADIN KAI.
In a video, the soldiers who congregated in front of the Headquarters of the Theatre of Commander were seen jubilating upon the mention of Yahaya as the new Army Chief.
Addressing the soldiers, a senior official urged the men to pray for the new COAS for “Allah’s protection.”
